Wellington Orbit welcomes new Chair

The Board of Wellington Orbit would like to inform members that Phil Morris-Jones has announced his decision to step down as Chairman. Stepping into his shoes will be John McGregor, who brings a wealth of experience and a long-standing commitment to the local community. Phil will continue to serve as Vice-Chair, ensuring his expertise remains within reach.

Phil will continue to serve as Vice-Chair, ensuring his expertise remains within reach. The Board extends its gratitude for his profound dedication and the significant contributions he has made over the years. We are pleased that Phil will continue to be an integral part of our journey as we progress with Phase 2.

John McGregor, a resident of Telford and specifically Wellington for over 30 years, is well-acquainted with the local community. Despite his global career as an IT Programme Director, with assignments in the USA, Africa, Scandinavia, and Europe, John has always considered Wellington his home. His professional journey also includes a notable tenure at the Inland Revenue as a Tax Inspector before transitioning into the consultancy sector.

Throughout his distinguished career, John has spearheaded projects for prestigious organisations such as Rolls-Royce, the BBC, the South African Broadcasting Company, and numerous UK Government Departments. His consultancy firm notably deployed over 100 associate consultants, assisting major pharmaceutical companies in migrating complex medical imaging work to cloud platforms.

John’s association with Wellington Orbit is not new. As an investor, he closely monitored the development of the cinema and café over the years and joined the Board as a Director in 2023, utilising his experience to support the progression of Phase 2. Now, as the new Chairman, he is set to play a pivotal role in the next phase of Wellington Orbit’s expansion, focusing on the development of the building’s upper floors.

Commenting on his new role, John said, “I have the proverbial ‘very tough act to follow’ in Phil, and I am grateful that in stepping down from the Chair he has agreed to act as Vice-Chair, meaning his experience and advice will not be far away. Phil has done an outstanding job in pulling a strong and diverse team of Directors together and allowing them to play to their respective strengths.

I hope to be able to give the role as much dedication as Phil has, and I am really excited at the momentum building for Wellington Orbit, not just in the facilities and opportunities to come as we bring the rest of the building onstream, but also in the here and now, with the impact we are having on Wellington’s revival and the fantastic asset the Orbit is already offering for the town.”

Phil Morris-Jones has been instrumental in the success of Wellington Orbit in recent years, steering the organisation towards becoming a key asset in Wellington’s ongoing revival. His continued presence as Vice-Chair ensures that his vision and dedication will continue to influence Wellington Orbit’s future.
